History
1914: Van Schaik Booksellers opened (initially published Afrikaans and Dutch books)1938: Split into two separate companies: JL van Schaik Publishers and Van Schaik Bookstore.
1 April 1986: JL van Schaik Publishers and Van Schaik Bookstore were incorporated as two separate subsidiary companies into Nasionale Pers, one of the largest media groups in South Africa.
1989: Owing to remarkable growth, after 53 years of being housed with Van Schaik Bookstore in the centre of Pretoria, JL van Schaik Publishers were obliged to relocate to larger premises in Hatfield.
1998: JL van Schaik Publishers sold their general titles to Tafelberg, Pharos and Lux Verbi and decided to concentrate only on the academic market.
1999: Changed name from JL van Schaik Publishers to Van Schaik Publishers.
1 April 2003: Van Schaik Publishers is incorporated in the National Education Group (NEG) in which the Thebe Investment Group has a 30 per cent share. The NEG is part of Via Afrika, the book publishing and retail arm of Naspers.
Ninety years later, Van Schaik Publishers continues to publish top quality books in the traditional form, while moving into the digital age by providing electronic content and keeping abreast of new technological developments in the publishing industry.
